“I learned a lot from my teachers, even more from my colleagues, but most - from my students.” These words of one of our Sages are the guiding principle for all of us here, at Paver Religious School. With this in mind, we strive to create a strong community of students, their family members and the professionals. We encourage and nurture questioning, intellectual curiosity, spiritual quest, increasing awareness of the ethical standards set for us by our ancestors, respect toward each other, along with the ability to listen to and to appreciate different points of view. We teach and model a sense of connection to the rest of Am Yisrael, we strengthen our ties with the State of Israel. We treasure Hebrew – a language that bonds our people around the world.
All these qualities flow out of our people’s tradition and form a foundation of being Jewish in today’s world. As our students learn about the past and its treasures, we teach them, and they teach us, that our heritage and the values it conveys come alive only if and when we apply them to our lives. We help them see their lives outside of the synagogue walls through the Jewish lens.
In this quest we – the educators – take very seriously the task of increasing our professional skills and knowledge, as well as a commitment to life-long learning. We are charged to be role models for our students; we need to “walk the walk,” not only “talk the talk.”
The Talmud says: "May My reward be with those who inspire students to enter and sit in the house of study." (Babylonian Talmud, Tractate Shabbat 118b). This is were the home meets the school, where the parents and the teachers form a team that together reaches for that reward. We are delighted and honored to see you being a part of that team.
